Founding Board
The Virtues Academy founding board is comprised of men and women who are committed to seeing the Kingdom of God expand through the work of our school. To that end, they will pray, dream, plan, fundraise, hire, and make decisions to set Virtues Academy on a firm foundation for years of fruitful growth.
Members of the founding board have been appointed based on both competency and character, demonstrated through long-term commitment to their families, their careers, and the local church. Each of our board members belongs to Awaken Church in Columbus, Ohio.
Brandon Rohrig, President
Brandon stumbled upon classical Christian education years ago after learning about its merits through podcasts and articles. A seed was planted that wasn’t quite ready to sprout. After four years as a high school math teacher and four years running a business, Brandon realized that founding a classical Christian school was the ideal fusion of his educational and entrepreneurial talents. Brandon was ordained as a pastor/elder at Awaken Church in 2022. He runs Sound + Light Creative, a media company focused on weddings and brands.
Alexa Lowe, Secretary
Alexa serves as Director of Operations at Huber Equity Group, a local private equity firm. Through this role, she has demonstrated organizational excellence through designing and implementing new business systems that have led to her company’s exponential portfolio growth. In addition, Alexa studied philosophy at Ohio State and shares an appreciation for classical thinking, making her an extra valuable addition to Virtues Academy.
Andrew Phillips, Treasurer
Andrew brings a wealth of business acumen to our founding board. He holds an MBA from Ohio University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He has spent the greater part of a decade building his career with a focus on regulatory compliance in the financial services sector. Andrew’s career has equipped him with the skills to help an organization like Virtues Academy achieve success and stability.
Brian Rohrig
Brian brings over 30 years of teaching experience to our founding board. An award-winning educator, author, and consultant, he currently teaches science at Bellefontaine High School. Brian publishes weekly at The Difficult Teacher, where you can follow his highly-entertaining journey as a teacher unafraid to battle for what is right, even in the face of extreme adversity.
Carson Thrush
Carson is a real estate developer and business owner with over a decade of experience managing and rehabilitating local properties. With the ability to see potential where others cannot, he has a track record of adding significant value through renovation. Carson’s skills in this area will be a tremendous benefit to Virtues Academy when we seek a permanent home.
